Welcome to the new hub for all things Salesforce Engineering! This site is where you can get a behind-the-scenes look at how we build business-critical software at scale, take a peek at how we contribute to the open source community, meet some of our technical employees, and learn more about what it’s like to work at Salesforce.
What is Salesforce Engineering?
The story of Salesforce, in some ways, is not unlike many tech companies. It started in a small apartment in San Francisco, and over 20 years has expanded to 100+ offices in 29 Countries. Salesforce was founded on three core innovations: our cloud/multi-tenant technology, our subscription model for selling software, and our focus on philanthropy. Each of these, in the early years, were core differentiators; they are what made us stand out from the rest.
Today, we remain driven by our core values of Trust, Customer Success, Innovation, Equality, and Sustainability. Our engineering teams live these out by
- building security into our products from the ground up,
- regularly delivering product updates with near-zero downtime for our customers,
- re-imagining our infrastructure for the modern public cloud,
- volunteering in truly geeky fashion,
- providing financial support to open source projects, and
- ultimately contributing to a more collaborative, inclusive, and connected world.
24 Hours in the Life of Salesforce
Our products help companies around the world connect with their customers and establish lasting, trusted relationships. It’s our job as engineers to ensure all systems are always a go. And not just any systems—we’re talking systems at pretty massive scale.
- 164,200,000,000 AI predictions served
- 6,600,000,000 customer service interactions
- 3,700,000,000 marketing messages sent
- 2,041,000,000 Slack actions taken
- 8,960,000 reports and dashboards created or used
- 2,110,000 e-commerce orders processed
All told, Salesforce powers trillions of platform, consumer, and employee interactions every single day.
Security, Scale, and Shipping Code
The bottom line is that our customers trust us with the success of their businesses, and there is no room for failure. Our users expect us to be highly available, lightning fast, supremely secure, and to preserve all of their customizations and integrations every time we ship, without breaking anything. This all creates complex and unique challenges for our engineering teams, which we’ll write about here on this blog. You’ll hear from engineers across our Salesforce product lines who use an array of programming languages and open source technologies to get their work done.
